Unspecified space, site specific work

The Mobile Institute is an autonomous network of artists that creates platforms for events, performance shows and installations. It is mobile, as much in its activities as in its conceptual developments.

In the proposed project “Unspecified Space, Site-Specific Work” It wishes to give the spectator, buyer or art dealer, the possibility to determine the space in which a group of artists will improvise in a privileged fashion a work of art. This work of art will be temporary and site-specific to the physical or conceptual space provided by its landlord. The Mobile Institute is open to the kind of space it is prepared to invest in, whether it be private, intimate, unusual or even utopian. The work will take form as an installation or performance with an ephemeral stance. The object for the invited Mobile Institute artists is to exploit the displacements that occur from space to space, making the work inter-related as a whole.
In doing so the Mobile Institute does not wish to restrain the financial limitation the buyer wishes to put forward; he is free to specify the quality and quantity of charge that best defines his or her space.

The Mobile Institute is een autonoom kunstenaarsnetwerk dat platforms schept voor evenementen, performance-shows en installaties. Het is mobiel in zijn activiteiten, evenzeer als in zijn conceptuele ontwikkelingen.

In het voorgestelde project “Unspecified Space, Site-Specific Work” (ongespecificeerde ruimte, locatie-specifiek werk) wil het de toeschouwer, koper of kunsthandelaar de mogelijkheid geven de ruimte te bepalen waarin een groep kunstenaars op een geprivilegieerde wijze een kunstwerk zal improviseren. Dit kunstwerk zou tijdelijk zijn en alleen locatie-specifiek voor de fysieke of conceptuele ruimte die wordt gegeven door zijn gastheer. The Mobile Institute staat open voor het soort ruimte waarin het zal investeren, of deze nu privé, intiem, ongebruikelijk of zelfs utopisch is. Het werk zou de vorm aannemen van een installatie of performance met efemere houding. Voor de uitgenodigde kunstenaars van het Mobile Institute is het doel de verplaatsingen die zich voordoen van ruimte naar ruimte te exploiteren, en zo het werk als geheel een onderling verband te geven.
Door dat te doen wil het Mobile Institute niet de financiële beperking die de koper naar voren wil brengen, terughouden; hij of zij is vrij te bepalen wat de kwaliteit en de kwantiteit van de kosten zijn die zijn of haar ruimte het beste definiëren.
